Our Story
In 1955, Roy was lettering trucks with ambitions to open a sign shop. He went to Toronto to study creative arts at the Chicago Vocational Training School and, upon graduation, opened Bell Signs in Selwyn, ON. October, 1957.

Roy’s son, Tedd, grew up in the business, learning many valuable skills from his father. His practical on-the-job experience was supplemented by training that he received while studying graphic arts at George Brown College, in Toronto.
“My dad dominated the sign business in this area for many years,” says Tedd. “He did everything from large highway billboards to lettering the biggest vehicles in the Kawarthas.”
Roy retired from sign-making in 1991, but Tedd has carried on the family business, which he bought from his father in 1991. When Tedd took over, he changed the name from “Bell Signs” to “Bell’s Sign & Design Shop”.
Tedd’s shop is equipped with state-of-the-art graphics technology. Computers have taken over from the labour-intensive, hand-painted signs of days gone by.
Now, Tedd and his daughter, Aly, work closely on a variety of projects, both large and small. They design and produce artwork for products as small as business cards and as large as highway billboards.
